On March 11 COVID-19 became a global pandemic. Life as we know it has forever been changed. As restrictions are eased, the North Tulsa Community Coalition (NTCC), reminds you to stay ready: It’s not business as usual. North Tulsans should be warned that COVID-19 is cutting a jarring path across the U.S. and that the virus is disproportionately killing people of color. We ask you to examine the demographic and socioeconomic makeup of our community and ask yourselves how we can protect our most vulnerable from the national trends. We must protect ourselves, as it is blatantly obvious that many of our societal systems will leave us exposed and unprotected as they turn COVID-19 into a political battleground instead of focusing on preserving the lives of citizens.
NTCC will distribute a limited number of cloth masks, yard signs, and has commissioned billboards to remind the community of the looming dangers of COVID-19. Our community is essential. There are no days off when you are in survival mode.
Stay ready: It’s not business as usual.
Actions You Can Take to Protect Our Community:
Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.
Wear a mask that covers your mouth and nose.
Practice social distancing and maintain six feet between yourself and others.
Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.
Avoid going in public unless it is for essential reasons like groceries or health care.
Avoid large gatherings. It is NOT worth the risk.
Stay home when you are sick.
Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
Take care of your mental health.
